Some campgrounds offer campsite right on the beach or adjacent to the beach. That means that kids will stay around water all the time and do a lot of swimming. It can be a lot of fun but there are some things to pay extra attention to:

1. Kids will need extra close supervision at all times. Undertow can be a dangerous thing even for adults.

2. Water and sand can make Kids clothes wet and scratchy, so bring a few extra changes of clothes and shoes to keep dry. Bring moisturizer, sun screen and bug repellent to avoid burns and bites. Bring beach shoes to avoid slipping on the wet rocks.

3. Remember that too much time in the sun may cause sun-strokes or heat-strokes, so it is important to constantly drink water, even if not feeling thirsty, and to wear hats and protective, light-coloured t-shirts to limit the sun exposure. Keep cool by swimming and splashing in the water.

4. On the other hand water and wind can cause ear aches in children. Some ear-ache remedies should be ready in the First Aid Kit. Cotton balls are often all that is needed to ward off cool wind from little ears. You can also provide some shelter from sun and wind, like a light beach tent.

5. It is important to choose beach that is kid-appropriate, with nice shallow water and smooth entrance.

6. Weather warnings have to be obeyed at all times. In the case of black or red flag, kids should not be allowed to come near water as the waves could be too high and too strong.

Beach camping is a great opportunity not only to enjoy surf and sun but also to tech your kids about water safety. Water has to be taken seriously and learning to swim should be a priority.

Now all you need is a great folding chair for your child and some beach toys and you are set.
