Best Ways to Watch Wildlife at Night

The best time to observe is about 30 minutes after dark
Sit down-wind, so the animals can’t smell you
Watch near water or a source of light, like your camping lantern
, where the bugs gather. Nocturnal birds like owls and bats who hunt for bugs will appear sooner or later.
Do not feed the animals! This could put you in danger and make the animal sick (see “leave no trace” principles).
Keep your distance: use binoculars
if possible
Catch some fireflies in a jar and watch a firefly show (then release them of course). You can observe the flashing patterns of the fireflies and then try to imitate it with a flashlight-you may attract some flies into your hands!
So you are taking your kids on the camping adventure. What could be more adventurous than watching some wildlife after dark?
