Campfire Cozy: Two Fireside Activities that Kick Kumbaya's Butt
There's one thing to be said about camping and fireside snuggles, they go hand and hand like chocolate and marshmallows squished between a graham cracker. And while I love a good old fashioned sing-along as much as the next girl, I much prefer more creative ways of enjoying the cozy glow of the campfire.
So to all of you equally creative mamas out there, (and I know you're out there,) here are a couple of my favorite ways for putting a little pizzazz into your own fireside traditions . . .
Don't Just Sing Along, Create Your Own Song
Nix the old words to "On Top of Old Smokey" and take turns creating your own lyrics. My son's favorite and now infamous versions? "On Top of My Pizza" and his "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" golden camp oldie "Tinkle Tinkle on the Bush".
The only rules are there are none. Have fun with it. Take turns singing whole stanzas or even single words. The latter turns out the silliest!
Impersonate your Favorite Persons
Sure charades are fun but they can be so dull. Bring the fun back into this traditional game by doing an impression of your husband or your kids. Allow them to do the same. It's all in good fun. Let the kids use items near the campsite if need be. Pine Needles can make a great mustache or beard!
The next time you gather around the campfire with your sweeties, remember putting a spin on an old tradition will make your family tradition twice as sweet and thrice as memorable.
