How To Have Fun Playing Games When Camping
One of the great joys of going camping is the games you play – not just the kids but adults too.
Some camping games don’t require any equipment and can be fun for the whole family. Being outdoors provides a healthy environment for all the family, but for the kids especially, to enjoy themselves by playing games. Outdoor games are a great way to get the family out into the sunshine and fresh air.
You can buy games from camping stores and there’s the regular ball games, swimming, fishing and board games, but when you have a group of kids to entertain, it’s a great idea to have other options available.
• An old favorite is “I Spy”. This is a game which can be played virtually anywhere
• Marbles – this is a great game because all you need is marbles, and draw a circle on the ground. The object is to hit out your opponents marbles out of the circle. The player gets to keep those marbles and the player at the end of the game with the most marbles is declared the winner
• Outdoor alphabet – take the kids hiking and have them point out objects starting with different letters of the alphabet
• Finding the right directions – blindfold each child and ask them which direction they are facing, North, South, East or West
• Sit around a campfire and make up ghost stories. Kids love to tell scary stories and you can make it more interesting by getting the kids to take turns by adding to the story
• Encourage your kids to take a journal with them so that they can record all their activities
Adults also love camping games, so I have a few suggestions.
• Give the balloon a shave – blow up a balloon and have each person draw a face on it. Apply shaving cream, give each person a plastic knife and have them shave the balloon. The person whose balloon hasn’t popped is the winner
• Find the grapes – give each person 5 grapes on a plate, smother with whipped cream, put their hands behind their backs, and then get them to find the grapes and eat them. The first to finish is the winner. Be sure to have plenty of napkins on hand!
• Lift the balloon – divide into two teams, place a balloon on the ground in front of each pair. The object is to lift the balloon without using your hands, and then pop it. The first one to achieve it is the winner
Whatever game you decide to play, make sure you all participate and have fun!
