Take the Whole Family Hiking!
When we think of hiking, we think of people throwing backpacks on their shoulders and toughing out the rough terrain. In other words, an entire day spent on hiking an intense trail. But the truth is that you don’t have to rough it and you don’t have to worry about anything being intense. There are hiking trails out there that are family friendly. This means that you and the kids can go hiking quite easily.
You may decide that it is ideal for you and the family to go on a simple stroll or go on some sort of treasure hunt.
There is an activity called Letterboxing that consists of the family having to put to use their detective skills. These events are a lot of fun and don’t require the family to go far into the woods. There is a message that must be deciphered and once deciphered the message leads to a hidden box. Inside the box there is a book that must be stamped by the participants and helps lead to the next clue.
Treasure hunting games such as this keep focus going and is great fun for the entire family. You may want to see if there is such an event at a national forest near you. There are many excursions for kids, families, and adults that many of the national forests and parks in the country engage in. Since hiking makes for a great workout and is a great time for families to bond, you definitely want to engage in this activity.
And remember that you don’t have to wait on hiking events to go hiking. You can do it all on your own. Just make sure you don’t travel too far for the kids and that you have plenty of water on hand. You also want to ensure you go hiking early in the day so that it doesn’t get dark on you.
