Tips to Make your Hike a Fun One
Hiking can be a blast as long as everything goes smoothly, so don't be afraid to take your kids hiking with you.
As long as you follow a certain set of rules, you should be okay during your hiking trip and surely you’ll have a lot of fun. Always be prepared and don’t be like those who brag: “I’ve gone hiking a hundred times” and then they make a wrong turn.
Do the following and you will be just fine:
• Bring about 2 liters of water with you. This is per person. If it is really hot, you may want to bring a little bit more. This is to ensure you don’t run out while you’re hiking. Pack some purifying tablets if you run out and you need to drink from a stream.
• Don’t forget a first aid kit. Slips and falls happen. When they do, scrapes happen. Sprains happen also, so you want to have bandages to bandage the sprain. However, you can prevent slips and falls by wearing the right hiking boots. You also want to watch each step that you make so that you don’t misstep.
• If you are going to be experiencing a significant change in altitude, it is a good idea to pack extra layers because the temperature can drop drastically.
• Wait out storms in low areas. Being next to tall tress can cause you to be struck by lightning. You also want to make sure you bring something to shield yourself from the rain. Don’t trust the forecast.
• Use repellants when it comes to bugs and just keep your eyes open for snakes and other creatures. If you do encounter a snake, let it continue the way it was going. You don’t want it to strike out. As long as you don’t obstruct it, you should be okay.
• One of the most important tips is to never stray from the path.
Other things to keep in mind are that it is best to hike during the day and in groups. You also want to bring a map, flashlight, a compass, a watch, and sunscreen.
