Do You Want to Go Camping with Your Pet?
Camping is meant to be fun for the entire family, which means it is also meant for your pets. But camping with pets can be rather tricky unless you know all of the rules and have a pet that will listen to you. Many times, pets will do what they want when they want, but you always have some control. Where you camp out will also have an impact on how much pet wiggle room you have.
Here are some things you need to do to make camping with your pet easy:
• Call the campground in advance to see what the requirements are when it comes to pets. Campgrounds are changing their rules all of the time, so you want to make sure you’re up to date.
• Always make sure you clean up after your pet. You may walk the same path again and you definitely don’t want to step in your pet’s waste. You don't want others to do it either.
• Make sure you do some research on what sort of plants are in the area. You don’t want your pet eating plants that are poisonous or running into something that will cause them physical harm.
• Pack some fresh drinking water. It is true that a dog will drink out of a mud puddle or out of a stream, but try to encourage the drinking of clean water whenever possible. This will keep your dog from coming in contact with something that can make him or her sick.
• You need to make sure that preventive measures for fleas and ticks are put into place. This may include using collars and treatments before going camping. You will also want to check your animal for ticks because ticks are everywhere in the woods.
• After your camping trip, schedule a checkup at the vet. This ensures that there was nothing your pet came in contact with that could cause problems down the road.
These are the ways in which you can camp worry free with your pets. It can be a lot of fun to bring your pet and not have to leave them at home.
