Light Up Your Campsite

In the early days of camping, the only light source available was either candles or kerosene powered lanterns. They did the job, but did not illuminate the campsite enough for cooking, and it was virtually impossible to read.

One of my greatest memories from camping with my children, was waiting for it to get dark so that we could play with our flashlights. That was all we had to use in our early days of camping. They were great at the time, but if you forgot to take along spare batteries it soon became a problem!

Flashlights are still mandatory when it comes to camping, and each person should have their own. They can be used to light up pathways on your way to the outdoor bathrooms, especially if you have children with you. You can also keep the children amused by giving them glow sticks which act as a beacon in locating their whereabouts. When purchasing flashlights, make sure they’re waterproof as well as durable.

As the years have gone by there are now more sophisticated ways to light up your campsite, as well as providing light for cooking, reading and providing basic safety aspects.

The best and most practical ones to use are either gas or battery powered lanterns. They emit a very bright light so are ideal for use outdoors. It is not recommended that you use the gas powered lantern inside your tent.

The option of using solar-powered and rechargeable lanterns is becoming more popular these days as an alternative light source. The beauty of solar-powered lights is that they can charge through the day so that they are ready for use at night.

Another great way to light up your campsite is to have a campfire. As well as shedding light, it’s a great way to warm everyone up on a chilly night. There’s nothing quite like sitting around a bonfire with family and friends swapping stories.

There’s nothing that compares to camping, so fitting yourself out with all the right equipment can make your camping experiences memorable for many years to come.

Campsite Lights

I agree that solar lanterns become more popular and they are beautiful, too. Some campers, especially those with RV's, use strings of Christmas lights to add a personal touch to their campsites at night. It may really look beautiful when used sparringly, but is also easy to go overboard (Christmas in July?).
