Can you believe it? Camping at the Y started officially in 1885 with a week-long camping trip to Orange lake NY. First camping trips were for small groups only, with a few tents set up along the shores of a lake. As camping became more and more popular leaders of the Y started the American Camping Association (1910).

Grand Canyon by Bike

As of May 1, 2010 visitors can explore Grand Canyon by bicycle. Bikes will be available for rental at the visitor centre on the South Rim from 8am to 6pm daily.

Camping with Guns?

As of February 22,2010 a National Park Service regulation prohibiting use of firearms in US national parks became obsolete. Now it is up to individual states to decide what is permitted.

Family Day at the Canadian Canoe Museum

The Candian Canoe Museum in Peteborough, Ontario, is again hosting a special event for families on the next Family Day (February 15, 2010).

There will be activities for kids, but the most importantly, one adult gets in for free if they pay for student or bring a kid under 5 (free).

Glamping is a new term coined just a few years ago to mean “glamourous camping”, which should really be "luxury camping". I am sure it was coined by some of those girls who just cannot go out of their houses without make-up, a perfect manicure and high heels.

2009 was the record year for British tourism industry, since many people decided to spend their holidays closer to home instead of travelling abroad.

As of January 1, 2010, American Girl debuts its new doll, Lanie Holland. 10-year old Lanie is a blond, hazel-eyed doll who loves the outdoors. She comes with a collection of clothing and accessories, as well as two books by Jane Kurtz.

Parks Canada to Offer More Luxury to Attract Visitors

Free Day at National Parks on Veterans Day, November 11, 2009

U.S. Department of the Interior announced that this year National Parks and National Forests will offer a no-fee entry on Wednesday, November 11, to honour all service men and women in the armed forces.

This means that you will not be paying entrance fee (per car or per person), but will still be responsible for paying camping fees and all the other activity fees.
