Play Ghost in the Graveyard for Campground Fun and Games!

Almost everyone enjoys playing games!

Part of the fun of a camping trip is playing outdoorsy games that are a good time for the whole family.

Here is one of my family’s favorite games to play while we’re camping:

Ghost in the Graveyard

Designate a home base on which everyone can stand or all touch at the same time such as a large tree, or a flat rock.
Choose one person to be the "ghost".
Have everyone except the ghost stand at the home base while the ghost runs off to hide.
As a group, chant “One o'clock... two o'clock... three o'clock…” and so on, all the way up to twelve o'clock. Then shout, “Midnight! I hope I don't see the ghost tonight!”

Everyone leaves the home base and searches for the ghost. The ghost's job is to jump out, surprise, and tag players.

When anyone encounters the ghost they yell, “Ghost in the graveyard!” and then try to run away before the ghost tags them. When the ghost catches someone, they become a ghost too. Anybody who gets back to home base without getting tagged is safe.

Everybody who was tagged now has to go and hide with, or close to, the original ghost. The ones left on the home base start all over again with the chant, “One o'clock... two o'clock…” etc.

Continue the game in this fashion until everyone is caught. The last person caught becomes the ghost for the next round.

This is a fun game for the campground, and can be played by all ages!

When you think about games to play while on a camping trip, you automatically think of outdoorsy things.

But, while it’s great to be able to play games outside while you’re camping, what will you do if the weather gets nasty and you’re all confined to your tent or shelter for hours?

Things could get boring really quickly during inclement weather without a backup plan of indoor games!

So, it’s a good idea to pack a deck of cards, a Monopoly game, and maybe a few other indoor games, so you’ll have them if needed for a rainy day!
