United Nations declared 2010 as an International Year of Biodivesity. And while it is wonderful to celebrate the richness of life on Earth, we are also worried about the future of the many species on the brink of of extinction.

David Suzuki Foundation reports that over 17,000 spicies known to man are declining, including such well known and beloved in Canada as polar bears, caribou and salmon.

Many areas need protection in order to save plants and animals that lived there for millenia and gave aboriginal people food, shelter and medicine.

We should value our wildlife and the knowledge of aboriginal First Nations, as they may still prove invaluable for our future.

Remember to do your part and practice "leave no trace principles" as you go camping this year.  Another thing to do is to reduce your consumption and production of garbage. Simply buy less, buy local and pay attention to packaging. Watch "Story of Stuff" for ideas.
